Quiz: match the film with the book
When filmmakers turn to the world of literature for inspiration, often they decide that the author made the best choice for title, and leave well alone.
It doesn’t take an expert to spot that Joe Wright’s film Pride and Prejudice (2005) is an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (1813) by Jane Austen. Even with the Bollywood version Bride and Prejudice (2004), the title is a pretty clear indication of the source material. Things get more complex when titles change completely, and even more complicated if the film is only loosely based on the original narrative – for example, moving it to another period.
We’ve taken a look through the Oxford World’s Classics list, and the films based on those books, and have come up with a quiz to test your literary and filmic knowledge.
